and ZOMBIES!

So I heard about Pride and Prejudice and Zombies via one of the various TWiT podcasts I listen to, and just had see what it was like. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. Now, Pride and Prejudice is one of my mother’s favorites and it never really struck me as something I’d ever be interested. Throw in some zombies and well… it gives everything a really funny and odd twist.

How many books do you know of that combine…

  • 19th century dialog
  • unmentionables (aka zombies)
  • ninjas
  • shaolin monks
  • and a love story

Can you even think of one?

There isn’t really too much to say. Go read it, or listen to it over at Audible.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

So the wife and I went to to see the third installment of the Underworld series yesterday afternoon. I was a little apprehensive going in, just because I really enjoyed the original Underworld (IMDB). Thankfully, I was quite happily surprised!

The entire plot is hinted at and flashed-back to during the first movie. Rise of the Lycans tells the story of Lucian’s revolt against his vampire overlords and of his love affair with Sonya, the daughter of his ruler, Viktor. In all honesty, its a cross of Braveheart and Underworld, but thats another movie I really enjoy. Perhaps it makes me biased. Too bad! At any rate, it’s well worth seeing. Michael Sheen and Bill Nighy both do an excellent job reprising their roles as Viktor and Lucian respectively. Rhona Mitra is an added bonus as Sonya.

One aspect I really enjoyed was the environment. The architecture of the vampire stronghold is pretty cool. Yes, its dark and dismal… as I think it should be. I would have liked to have seen more of it.

Now the question is, when does it come out on DVD so I can add it to my collection?
